You need to do everything you can to mitigate the effects of gravity and falling. Redundancy is key—always back-up every important piece of gear with another and always use more than one anchor. Your life depends on it. Beginner climbers are most vulnerable to accidents. Always use sound judgment; respect climbing dangers; don’t go over your head; ask for advice and help; be self-reliant and cautious; find an experienced mentor or take lessons to learn how to climb safe. Remember that most accidents happen because of climber error. The following 10 tips will keep you safe on the rock.

1. Always Check Harnesses
After you’ve geared up, always check that both the climber’s and belayer’s harness buckles are doubled back

2. Always Check Knots
Before you start climbing, always double check that leader’s tie-in knot (usually a Figure-8 Follow-Through) is tied right and finished with a backup knot. Also check that the rope is threaded through both the harness waist loop and the leg loops.

3. Always Wear a Helmet
A climbing helmet is essential if you want to live long and prosper. Always wear one when climbing or belaying. Helmets protect your head from falling rocks and from the impact of falling.

4. Always Check the Rope and Belay Device
Before you lead a route, always double check that the rope is properly threaded through the belay device (especially if it’s a GriGri). Also, always make sure the rope and belay device are attached with a locking carabiner to the belayer’s harness.

5. Always Use a Long Rope
Make sure your rope is long enough to reach the anchors and lower back down on a sport route or to reach a belay ledge on multi-pitch routes. When sport climbing, if you have any doubt that the rope is too short, always tie a stopper knot in the tail end to avoid being dropped to the ground.

6. Always Pay Attention
When you’re belaying, always pay attention to the leader above. He’s the one taking the risks of a fall. Don’t visit with other climbers at the base, talk on a cell phone, or discipline your dog or kids. Never take the leader off belay unless you are absolutely certain he is tied in and safe and he communicates that to you.

7. Always Bring Enough Gear
Before you climb a route, always eyeball it from the ground and determine what you need to bring. You know best. Don’t rely strictly on a guidebook to tell you what to bring. If it’s a sport route, verify visually how many bolts need quickdraws. If in doubt—always bring more than you think you need.

8. Always Climb With the Rope Over Your Leg
When you’re leading, always make sure the rope is over your leg rather than between them or behind one. If you fall with the rope in this position, you will flip upside down and hit your head. Wear a helmet for protection.

9. Always Properly Clip the Rope
Make sure you always clip your rope through carabiners on quickdraws correctly. Avoid backclipping, where the rope runs front to back rather than back to front in the carabiner. Make sure the carabiner gate faces opposite your direction of travel, otherwise the rope can come unclipped. Always use locking carabiners on important placements.

10. Always Use Safe Anchors
At the top of a pitch or route, always use at least two anchors. Three is better. Redundancy keeps you alive. On a sport route, always use locking carabiners if you’re lowering down to top-rope off the anchors.

source : climbing.about.com

Topic Relation :
Tips for safe climbing
Rock shoe buying tips
Good rock climbing wall
Rock climbing techniques
On choosing best pair of rock
Rock climbing easyly
Basic supplies for rock climbing
Best of worlds rock climbing
Expert shares rock climbing
Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-56702722434424994732008-07-30T05:08:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:03.168-08:0010 Rock Shoe Buying Tips for BeginnersOkay, you’re interested in rock climbing and you’ve seen all those cool colorful rock shoes that the cool guys and gals are wearing at the crag. But what should you get? How do you decide what shoes to buy? And what kind of shoes do you need? The rock shoes you buy, even your first pair, is one of the most important climbing equipment purchasing decisions you will make. Buy the wrong pair of shoes and your feet will hurt and you’ll probably give up climbing. But buy the right pair of rock shoes and you’ll be dancing up the walls. Follow my 10 tips below to make smart buying decisions.

1. Buy at a Reputable Mountain Shop
For your first pair of rock shoes, buy at a reputable mountain shop with an experienced sales staff that is knowledgeable about climbing.

2. Buy an All-Around Rock Shoe
Buy a comfortable all-around, all-purpose shoe with a stiff sole and high-cut leather upper to protect your ankles. As a beginner you'll do all kinds of climbing--get a shoe that lets you experiment and improve.

3. Get a Snug Comfortable Fit
Get a snug but comfortable fit—not too tight but not sloppy. Make sure the toe box is big enough for your foot. A tight pointed toe box is uncomfortable and useful only on extreme climbs.

4. Rock Shoes Will Stretch
Remember that rock shoes stretch, but mostly in width, not in length. Shoes with rubber rands and linings won’t stretch much. If the shoe is painful and your toes are cramped, don’t buy it.

5. Improper Sizing is a Common Problem
Try on lots of shoes to find a pair that fits your feet. Improper sizing is the most common problem when buying new rock shoes. Rock shoes come in US, UK, and European sizing, which makes size conversion difficult. It’s always best to try them on in person and wear them around the shop for at least five minutes. Some shops have small walls where you can test them on a vertical surface.

6. Great Deals are Found On-Line
Great deals are available from on-line vendors, but be aware that you may not pick the right size and if you buy them, you might be stuck with a shoe that doesn’t fit. Before buying, make sure you can send them back unused for a size exchange.

7. Buy Used and Save Big
Look for bulletin boards in shops and gyms to buy a used pair of rock shoes. Great deals are also found on E-Bay.

8. Buy Last Year's Models Cheap
Buy new rock shoes in the late winter and spring when last year’s models are passé and heavily discounted. Most mountain shops and on-line retailers will have close-out specials. Shop early for your size, otherwise they will have only really big or super small sizes.

9. Do a Test Run at a Shoe Demo
Look for shoe demos, usually at local climbing gyms, to try out different rock shoes and see what works for your foot, experience, and climbing style. The shoe rep can help you decide what kind of shoe and size will work for you.

10. Rent Before Buying Rock Shoes
Consider renting shoes for the first few times that you go climbing, whether outside or in a rock gym. That way you will know if climbing is a sport you will stick with as well as have an understanding about how you climb and how the shoes you’re renting perform at the cliff.

Topic Relation :
Tips for safe climbing
Rock shoe buying tips
Good rock climbing wall
Rock climbing techniques
On choosing best pair of rock
Rock climbing easyly
Basic supplies for rock climbing
Best of worlds rock climbing
Expert shares rock climbing
Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-37687079149793477392008-07-30T04:58:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:03.547-08:00A Good Rock Climbing Wall Is Easy To FindWhen it comes to indoors sports, indoor rock climbing can be a fun and rewarding activity. The amount of enjoyment this recreational pursuit provides is evident in the scope of its popularity. Indoor rock climbing walls have been set up at Universities, civic centers, carnivals and various expos and have drawn sizable crowds. If rock climbing wasn’t very popular, you would never see rock climbing walls present at so many events nor would you see the sheer volume of participants that it attracts.

And there is a rock climbing wall to appease everyone. Some are designed with the novice in mind and some are designed for the more experienced and the more competitive members of the sports enthusiast universe.

A great rock climbing wall is a welcome site when the weather is poor. Rainy – or even snowy days – can kill plans for a rock climbing trip. So, a rock climbing wall set up indoors is a welcome site. It allows people to participate in their favorite hobby while enjoying the safety from the elements that indoor rock climbing provides. Some sporting goods stores, such as Dick's, now feature full-sized rock-climbing walls, which any customer is allowed to use free of charge.

The view from the top of a wall might not be quite as majestic as the view of the top of your favorite cliff face, but it nonetheless provides a safe and enjoyable means of improving your rock climbing skills. As you get better, you can select a different, more challenging path to the top of the wall. In most cases, a climbing wall will have multiple gradients. On the hardest gradient, you may find yourself climbing up-side-down in certain parts of the wall to get to the top.

Topic Relation :
Tips for safe climbing
Rock shoe buying tips
Good rock climbing wall
Rock climbing techniques
On choosing best pair of rock
Rock climbing easyly
Basic supplies for rock climbing
Best of worlds rock climbing
Expert shares rock climbing
Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-38350520866741620252008-07-30T04:54:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:03.870-08:00Rock Climbing Techniques and Safety HabitsHere are some rock climbing techniques and tips that will help you enjoy a safe but fun rock climb.

Rock climbing is a dangerous sport and should be taken very seriously. No amount of rock climbing techniques can ensure your safety during a climb. Being safe all depends on your skills and in being prepared. You must ensure that you decrease your risk by ensuring that you have the right gear and that you check the safety of your gear before the climb. For beginners, you should pick up the appropriate gear and make sure that it is not too heavy for you to carry while rock-climbing. Therefore you must ensure you have all of the necessary gear to embark on this journey but at the same time cover only the essentials.

Before going into the actual climb, you should ensure that all knots and buckles are working, that all damaged gear has been properly replaced, that you know who you are climbing with and what they are capable of, that the weather is not too dangerous for climbing, and that your rappel system is functioning properly. This way you can make sure your climb is fun but safe for you and your friends.

Once you have ensured your safety, you can now focus on the rock climbing techniques you can use in climbing. The first basic technique is the cross through, where you simply cross your one hand over the other to get to a hold. Another basic technique is the hand foot match, where a climber must put their hand and foot on the identical hold at the identical time. The drop knew technique is a step back and where one knee drops down while the other is facing upward. This is used when a climber overhangs on a rock. A high step is when a climber puts their foot on a high hold. Climbers frequently use the foot switch technique, where they will switch the foot on a hold with their other foot to ease in getting to the next hold. When a climber uses both hands together on a hold they are said to be matching.

Topic Relation :
Tips for safe climbing
Rock shoe buying tips
Good rock climbing wall
Rock climbing techniques
On choosing best pair of rock
Rock climbing easyly
Basic supplies for rock climbing
Best of worlds rock climbing
Expert shares rock climbing
Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-47933950655489092842008-07-30T04:46:00.001-07:002008-11-13T10:29:07.187-08:00Buying Your First Rock Climbing ShoesAs you are now ready to make your first climbing excursion you are ready to buy your equipment. This isn’t a purchase you’re making to find a pair of slippers or dress shoes to go with that new outfit you’ve just bought. Don’t buy for appearance. Nobody cares what color they are. Keep looking until you have the right footwear.

Since your buying your first pair of rock climbing shoes its recommended that if they are for outdoor climbing you buy the traditional climbing shoes. But if its indoor climbing at a climbing gym you definitely should purchase sports shoes. Buy for correct fit. If you don’t find the right thing, don’t buy anything. Find another store. Keep looking until you have the right footwear.

Since your buying your first pair of rock climbing shoes its recommended that if they are for outdoor climbing you buy the traditional climbing shoes. But if its indoor climbing at a climbing gym you definitely should purchase sports shoes. Depending on your climbing plan, you may need both.

Topic Relation :
Tips for safe climbing
Rock shoe buying tips
Good rock climbing wall
Rock climbing techniques
On choosing best pair of rock
Rock climbing easyly
Basic supplies for rock climbing
Best of worlds rock climbing
Expert shares rock climbing
Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-19638954443854055122008-07-30T04:39:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:08.080-08:00Rock Climbing Without A Rock Climbing RopeChances are, whenever you are presented with the thought of rock
climbing, the first thing that comes to your mind is a rock climbing
rope.

Rock climbing is a seemingly dangerous sport, that a rope
is almost always a necessity to prevent unwanted accidents in the form
of fatal falls. Scaling those heights is scary enough, what with the
perils associated with it. A rope would even the odds and present for
the rock climber a safety harness that would support him if ever he
slips or miscalculates a move.

The usual routine is to have a
lead man ascend the top of a cliff or crag to establish an anchor where
the rock climbing rope would be tied to. This anchor is what is called
in rock climbing circles as the top rope. The top rope should be
securely positioned, as it will support the weight of all the climbers
who would use it for safety.

Take note, rock climbing uses ropes
only for safety and not for leverage. The sport demands that the rock
climber should only use his hands, legs and mind to scale the side of a
cliff or crag. The rope should not be used for undue advantage.

Believe it or not, though, that some rock climbers scale cliffs or crags without the benefit of a rock climbing rope.

For
them, this scenario provides the ultimate rush, more so when they
manage to reach the very top of a headland without taking any safety
precautions.

Bo Johnson, a veteran rock climber from Colorado,
explains such a stance. "You'd have to be very confident with regards
to your rock climbing skills," he said. "It's a real thrill. You could
fall any time, and that fall could potentially be very dangerous. But
it just adds to the excitement. Rock climbers who don't use ropes know
that they won't fall. It's as simple as that."

But are they correct?

"Of
course not," Bo answered. "Scaling without a rock climbing rope is
never recommended. It's like driving without your seatbelt fastened;
only the car is at top speed on a narrow speedway full of sharp turns.
The driver may find it absolutely electrifying, but at what possible
cost? His life? I don't think a person's life is worth that kind of
compromise."

"You could always derive your thrills elsewhere,"
Bo advices. "Rock climbing offers a lot of them. But climbing without a
rope is not one of these choices."

If you want to give rock
climbing a shot, then a rope should be one of your primary investments.
Just like what Bo Johnson said, rock climbing is very thrilling as it
is. You don't have to add to the risks.

Topic Relation :

Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing
Rock climbing techniques
Rock climbing harness
Uses of rock climbing
Climbing Guide
Expert discusses
Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing provesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-24895284155129068772008-07-30T04:34:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:08.351-08:00Basic Supplies for a Rock Climbing RackWe have now gotten to the point in rock climbing where it has become a lot safer to enjoy this sport. In early times what we know of the rack was just simply a rope that you crammed in a crack, in the hopes it would hold. A while later it was nuts that can be wedged in rock constrictions. There were no safety regulations to abide by; you simply had luck on your side.

Nowadays, your gear may save your life. Your rack protection has changed to be more reliable and safe to make your climb that much more spectacular. Here we will offer you the safest instructions for your climb as well as why it is important for you to have a reliable rack.

A rock climbing rack can be described as the supplies you carry with you as well as on your harness, along with everything you carry in your back pack. Everything in your rack would be your lifesaver. It includes everything involved with your climb and makes you ready for any situation. It is recommended that you buy the basic needed equipment at first or you will end up breaking the bank. You should not spend thousands of dollars on gear if you do not know enough about it.

It is smarter to go with passive protection with your rock climbing rack to start out. You must consider the size of your gear because it can get heavy to carry. You just need something that will stay where you need it to. There are many different styles. So be sure to ask what the salesman thinks would be best for you while also keeping in mind what you have read here. Make sure you carry an extra of everything in case the worst happens.

Do not forget your anchor, your cord, your chain and tie in, so your partner is equipped and there is no risk of knotting or losing your rope. Finally get a nut tool, an important tool that is often forgotten, include it in your rock climbing rack so you can keep your nuts clean and protected.

Topic Relation :

Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing
Rock climbing techniques
Rock climbing harness
Uses of rock climbing
Climbing Guide
Expert discusses
Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing provesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-32222468218660717032008-07-30T04:30:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:08.767-08:00Best Of Both Worlds Rock Climbing PhotographyRock climbing photography can be a truly enjoyable experience that takes the recreational activity of rock climbing to a new level. Not only does one get to enjoy the thrill of climbing or scaling a rock structure, they have the additional reward of capturing their experience through the lens of a camera. This camera lens captures the magnificent view that the rock climbing is accorded when he or she reaches the top of the structure they are climbing. On a side note, the more adventurous rock climbers are able to capture their experience by snapping a photo at the half way point. And those looking for the least difficult method of rock climbing photography can take picture of the spot where they are renting their equipment, but that type of photography isn’t always the most thrilling nor are the pictures in any way able to bestow bragging rights. Oh well, we can’t have everything.

Rock climbing photography is one of those rare hobbies that combines two demanding disciplines. Just as rock climbing is hardly something that requires no formal training or instruction, rock climbing photography is not merely grabbing a camera and snapping a bunch of picture. In order to capture the best possible photographs, a photographer really needs to understand what comprises a good picture and what pictures will prove to be the most interesting to someone who likes to look at those type of pictures when they flip through a magazine. In a way, a rock climbing photographer has to know what type of little moments make up the more interesting photos. This type of knowledge can create some truly spectacular rock climbing photography.

So, if one successfully mixes these two disciplines, one adds a greater dimension to each separate, individual discipline which is no small task. And that, in and of itself can act as its own reward.

Topic Relation :

Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing
Rock climbing techniques
Rock climbing harness
Uses of rock climbing
Climbing Guide
Expert discusses
Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing provesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-34576151802921237962008-07-30T04:26:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:08.968-08:00Expert Shares A Rock Climbing Lesson Or Two For Novices To Learn
Franz Johann Garcia, a veteran rock climber from Asia who has been
impassioned with rock climbing for almost two decades now, shares his
experience about the sport, as well as a rock climbing lesson or two
for beginners.

"Some say that rock climbing is not merely a way
of life," the former ranking officer of the UP Mountaineers, one of the
premiere mountaineering and rock climbing clubs in the South East,
began. "These people claim that rock climbing IS life, that somehow,
all of life's aspects, from the mundane to the metaphysical, can be
encapsulated in the things you will get to experience in one climb."

"This
is not really true," he quickly denounced. "Rock climbing is NOT life.
The moment you believe it to be such would be the moment you will
magnify the risks tenfold. Rock climbing is a sport; it's as simple as
that. Your safety should always take precedence."

Indeed, this
rock climbing lesson, from a well respected expert at that, should
always be remembered. Believe it or not, some rock climbers do away
with safety equipments like ropes and harnesses to add more thrill to
the sport, to live life to the fullest so they claim. Franz doesn't
think of this as a prudent mentality.

So, what would be a specific rock climbing lesson that a novice rock climber should know before embarking on a climb?

"There
are quite a few, actually," Franz told us. "For starters, make sure
that you have the basic gears with you. I'm talking about a helmet, the
right kind of shoes, a harness, and a rope, though you can share one
with your group."

Speaking of groups, Franz reminds us that we should always scale cliffs and crags with other people.

"Rock
climbing is a sport laden with so many risks. Going on a climb alone is
more dangerous, since no one would be there to come to your aid
whenever these dangers occur."

Any other rock climbing lesson that novices should learn? Franz was quick to add a couple more.

"Use
your legs. Most beginners make the mistake of pulling their weight with
their hands alone. This is disastrous. You arms would get tired and you
might lose grip later on during the course of the climb. Also, do not
neglect the value of training. Strength and endurance conditioning
exercises as well as theoretical lessons should be parts of your
preparations. You can't trek to a cliff and expect to scale a wall
without proper training. You'll just be setting yourself up for
potentially fatal disaster."

In closing, Franz delivers what he feels is the most important rock climbing lesson that anyone should learn.

"Overconfidence
is your enemy," he said. "Treat each climb with respect, that is, as a
challenge that you are privileged to experience. This would make you
value your safety more than the task at hand. Remember, success can
always be delayed, but your welfare should never, ever be compromised."

Topic Relation :

Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing
Rock climbing techniques
Rock climbing harness
Uses of rock climbing
Climbing Guide
Expert discusses
Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing provesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-15343636688920690362008-07-30T04:16:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:09.207-08:00Beginning in Rock Climbing KnotsAs a novice you should be certain to learn your rock climbing knots before you go on your first climb. Your rope is your lifeline and the last thing you want is to be unsafe on your first adventure. When your life depends on the rope you use it is necessary to understand the degrees of strength that your rope brings to you. This is based a lot on the rock climbing knots that you use. The knots diminish the breaking strength of your rope. A good knot is a strong knot.

The rock climbing knots you learn should fulfill only a few basic needs. They should be easy for you tie. They should be just as easy to untie even after having been used to hold a heavy load. The knot you choose should also diminish the breaking strength as little as possible.

The first and probably most important knot to learn is the figure eight. Even this simple knots has two different ways to be tied depending on whether it is being used to tie equipment to it or if its being used to tie to a harness. This is the most basic and useful knot and is one of the first five that a beginner should learn. It has a good strength rating.

Another of the rock climbing knots that should be learned at the beginning is the bowline. This is the common knot to use when belaying. Belaying is when a climber secures the rope to the rock or to a person. This knot is tricky, as it is known to come undone, which, of course, will never do. Climbers suggest using a half hitch knot to tie the end securely in place.

There are several groups of rock climbing knots that you can learn starting with single loop knots. These are what you use to connect anything to your harness and include the lineman’s loop or the Flemish loop. When you want to attach the rope to something like a bolt you’ve put in the rock face a double loop knot is best. That would include the bowline, double alpine or double figure eight.

Topic Relation :

Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing
Rock climbing techniques
Rock climbing harness
Uses of rock climbing
Climbing Guide
Expert discusses
Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing provesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-12114271213967663182008-07-30T04:14:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:09.457-08:00The Joys of Rock Climbing Instruction
Before rushing out and jumping into an activity, it would be wise to invest time in a period of instruction. This makes the activity enjoyable because those participating in the activity will be better versed in said activity and there will be less down time due to confusion and inexperience. Also, proper instruction is almost like an insurance policy for those participating because proper instruction reduces the safety risks inherent in inexperience.

When it comes to rock climbing instruction, creating familiarity with the activity and teaching proper rock climbing safety are the main things that are stressed. Rock climbing is particularly dangerous if you do not have the proper instruction. For instance, many novice climbers might not know that each climbing technique calls for specific knots and specific belaying or climbing techniques.

Most basic courses of rock climbing instruction involve teaching rope rigging and climbing, the underlying basic principles of rock climbing, including the use of caribenas, knots, ropes, helmets, pads – and finding and using handholds and footholds. Many times, a quality rock climbing instruction course can be completed in a day, but weekend or multi weekend courses have been known to take place as well.

Now, this does not mean that all rock climbing instruction clinics are taught strictly to the novice. Advanced and intermediate courses dealing with specialty topics are common as well. These courses show that there is never a limit to the learning experience, such as climbing up rocks with gradients so steep that you are actually up-side-down for a period of time. Plus, continuing one’s rock climbing instruction education can put a focus of one’s rock climbing so that climbing never devolves into a routine, stale activity for the enthusiast.

So, a quality rock climbing course has a host of benefits and can provide the basis for a hobby that has the potential for turning into a lifestyle as rock climbing is quite a rewarding (and addictive) activity. So give a good rock climbing instruction course a try!

Topic Relation :

Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing
Rock climbing techniques
Rock climbing harness
Uses of rock climbing
Climbing Guide
Expert discusses
Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing provesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-24154776041941833612008-07-30T04:07:00.001-07:002008-11-13T10:29:09.583-08:00Rock Climbing Holds and Techniques
There are many rock climbing holds out there so you must be careful not to get yourself overwhelmed when you are at the beginning stages of rock-climbing. Here we will give you the most basic rock-climbing holds to get you off to a safe start.

Remember rock climbing is a dangerous sport and should be taken very seriously. You must ensure you have all of the necessary gear to embark on this journey. By ensuring that you are practicing safe holds, you will decrease the amount of risk involved in climbing.

The most basic place to start is with foot and handhold techniques so this article will discuss the most popular of these techniques. The most basic method is edging, where you need to use your feet to stand securely on a hold. The second method is back stepping, where you use edging on a hold that is behind you, while keeping your body’s side against the wall. Smearing is also a basic technique where you do not use a hold, but rather your foot is directly on the rock or wall. Climbers can use a heel lock to keep their bodies up and balanced. This is similar to a toe hook where your toe is hooked directly to the rock or wall. When a climber crosses one foot behind the other this is referred to as flagging. The most common hand technique is the crimp, where the first joint in the hand is extended and the second joint is fully contracted. This method can be painful on the hands, so if you are looking for an easier handhold then use the open handgrip. This is where you keep your hand open while using your first joint to hold the rock.

When you are holding a rock form the side you are using a technique called a gaston. Another rock climbing holds technique commonly used is a pinch, and you can probably guess what it is from the name. Finally, the last hold technique we will describe is slopping, where there is little reinforcement for the climber and you are using pull to hold onto the rock.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-30282371907240931212008-07-30T04:07:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:11.841-08:00Rock Climbing Holds Make A Wall Climbing Indoor Facility PossibleSo, you've become addicted to the thrills that rock climbing does
offer. You can't wait for the next climb with your buddies to once
again experience the distinct excitement provided by this fascinating
sport. It may be an exhausting adventure, but the physical, as well as
the mental, demands of rock climbing are by far the most exhilarating
moments you have experienced.

But you can't trek to climb sites
everyday. For starters, life has other demands, like work, school,
quality time with loved ones, and the likes. Also, going to a climb may
involve some expenses that you cannot afford to spend on a very regular
basis.

So what should a rock climbing fanatic do?

You could build your own indoor wall climbing facility right inside your house, or on your backyard!

Indeed,
an indoor wall climbing facility is the next best thing to an actual
rock climbing experience. The wall would simulate the cliff or crag
environment. Rock climbing holds can be purchased, and thereafter
attached to the wall, to replicate the slabs and holes that can be
found on the sides of cliff and crags.

These rock climbing holds
are actually the most integral component of your wall climbing
facility. A wall can easily be established. The façade of your house,
if the surface is flat and sturdy enough, can serve as the base for
your indoor wall climbing plan. If not, you could always put wall
boards designed for wall climbing exercises. All you have to do,
afterwards, is to bolt the rock climbing holds unto the surface of the
wall to create a path that can be navigated for a climb.

Other
additional materials you will need aside from rock climbing holds are
an anchor and a rope. The anchor would be positioned at the very top of
the wall, and to which the rope would pass through. One end of the rope
would be attached to the climber's harness, while the other end would
be attached to another anchor a few meters away from the base of the
wall, to be supported by the climber's partner.

Having your own
indoor wall climbing facility would allow you to enjoy the thrills of
rock climbing without having to leave your home. Additionally, you'd be
able to practice your rock climbing skills on a daily basis, if you
wish, to help you train for those often grueling climbs in an outdoor
environment.

Topic Relation :

Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing
Rock climbing techniques
Rock climbing harness
Uses of rock climbing
Climbing Guide
Expert discusses
Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing provesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-15559681863587755752008-07-30T04:00:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:13.204-08:00A Rock Climbing Harness Is A Climber's Best FriendWhen it comes to rock climbing, your most important partner would have to be your rock climbing harness.

Let's
face the facts. Rock climbing isn't really the safest of sports. In
fact, it's classified as an extreme sport, with "extreme" being the
operative word. It's fraught with risks... risks that could actually
prove fatal for the untrained and ill-prepared climber. Dealing with
the uncertainties of slab and hole locations coupled with the sheer
height of cliffs and crags, as well as the physical and mental demands,
which can be daunting, associated with the sport, rock climbing isn't
an activity that anyone could join. You'd have to possess physical and
mental fortitude. You'd have to undergo physical conditioning to build
your strength and stamina. And you'd have to equip yourself with the
right gear to ensure your safety.

And of all this gear, a rock climbing harness is the most important.

A
rock climbing harness is a belt-like tool that you strap into your
midsection, from your crotch to your waist. The rope which is supposed
to keep you safe from a fall whenever you slip or otherwise lose
balance during a climb is attached to your strap, with the other end
passing through the anchor at the top of the cliff or crag and
extending to the base of the climb site, supported by another anchor
and monitored by a human companion. From this description, it is quite
apparent that a rock climbing harness is essential for your welfare.

In choosing a rock climbing harness, you should keep in mind the following guidelines:

* Choose a harness that is sturdy and durable. You wouldn't want it to break while supporting your fall.

* Make sure that the clip where the end of the rope would be attached is made up of metal.

*
Choose a harness that would complement your body type. Bigger folks
would find full body harnesses quite uncomfortable, for example, while
smaller climbers would find the same to their liking.

* Don't
forget to test the harness before purchasing it. Most rock climbing
shops have indoor wall climbing facilities that would help their
customers test the performance of what they intend to buy. This would
be a great chance to determine the strength and durability of the
harness you are considering.

A harness is a rock climber's best
friend. Selecting one should not be a matter of budgeting alone.
Dependability should be a factor that should precede price.

Topic Relation :

Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing
Rock climbing techniques
Rock climbing harness
Uses of rock climbing
Climbing Guide
Expert discusses
Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing provesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-3171462778876079382008-07-30T03:57:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:13.439-08:00Uses of a Rock Climbing Guide<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_55tODhaocRs/SJBJuF5Dh7I/AAAAAAAAAII/5foT4hCn9nk/s400/rock+climbing+33.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5228760223581439922" />
Rock climbing has grown in popularity over the last few years especially with the advent of rock climbing gyms scattered throughout most big cities. If you want to get into this sport how do you know what places are available for you to enjoy this adventure? If you are traveling throughout North America or Europe what can you do to find these adventure spots?

Try checking the Internet for a rock climbing guide and see what you can find. There will be many websites that will give you information on good places to climb that are considered both wilderness and non-wilderness outside locations.

The information available on worldwide locations for rock climbing will surprise you by its diversity. It will include national parks, private wildness sites and the climbing gyms. Once you find a place that you like you can research it closer to see if it’s a place you really want to go. You can also buy a rock climbing guide in book form if that’s your preference.

A rock climbing guide may be an informative source for information other than where in the world you can do to climb. It may be a guide on how to rock climb. There are so many things that need to be learned when it comes to rock climbing that a guide on the general practices and safety measures would be a useful handbook to have when getting ready to embark on your first rock climbing adventures.

A good rock climbing guide handbook should be able to prepare you for your adventure. It will tell you what equipment you need and why. It will show you how to make climbing knots. A good guidebook should tell you what clothing to wear when climbing. It should also make suggestions on the right shoes to wear, the kind of harness to buy, what you should wrap you hands with and what to wear on your head. Pay special attention to the safety hints in your handbook. This rock climbing guide could prevent serious injury or save your life.

Topic Relation :

Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing
Rock climbing techniques
Rock climbing harness
Uses of rock climbing
Climbing Guide
Expert discusses
Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing provesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-34906190344933660722008-07-30T03:50:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:13.676-08:00Expert Discusses What Should Be Included In Your Rock Climbing Gear SetTo make the most out of your rock climbing experience, you'd need to be armed with the right rock climbing gear for the same. It's like savoring good food. To prepare the sumptuous delicacy, you'd need the right ingredients and the proper cooking skills. Gears and equipments are the ingredients necessary for the enjoyment of rock climbing, with your training developing the skills you need to do well in this sport.

So, the question is, what should be included in your rock climbing gear set?

We asked an expert in the field, Franz Johann Garcia, a rock climber since 1991, and a former officer of the UP Mountaineers, one of Asia's most prestigious mountaineering and rock climbing associations, to shed some light on the matter.

"The first thing you would need," he said, "is a lot of heart. Though this isn't technically a rock climbing gear, it is still something you should bring with you every time you train and actually embark on a rock climbing expedition. Rock climbing is a scary sport. There are many risks involved. We used to advice people that if they cannot muster enough courage, they shouldn't try rock climbing. The worst thing that could ever happen is to lose heart in the middle of a climb."

Indeed, this is true. Mental fortitude is as much a necessity as physical strength, stamina and endurance in rock climbing. But what about the real gear?

"You need the usual safety gear," Franz answered. "A helmet, non-restrictive pads, first-aid kit... these are the first things that come to mind. They will minimize the risks of injury in the event that an accident would happen."

"Then you also need the right kind of shoes," he added. "These are what we call as approach shoes, complete with clippers that attach to a safety carabineer."

Ordinary shoes though, as Franz clarified, can be used, as long as their soles are non-slippery and you could wear them on your feet very tightly. Mountaineering shoes best fit this description, though not the heavy variety.

"A harness is an absolute necessity," Franz continued. "Ropes are usually provided by the group, and we strongly recommend that you ALWAYS climb with a group. The rope would support you and keep you safe in case you slip while climbing. This rope will be attached to your harness. It goes without saying that your harness should be sturdy and durable."

Franz claims that these are the basics. There are other rock climbing gear options, of course, but they are just ancillary, serving to enrich the rock climbing experience.

Hopefully, with these suggestions by an expert in the field, people would know that rock climbing is an accessible sport, and more people would join in the fun and experience the wonderful experiences that this passion does promise.

Source : rock-climbing-zone.info

Topic Relation :

Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing
Rock climbing techniques
Rock climbing harness
Uses of rock climbing
Climbing Guide
Expert discusses
Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing provesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-12875275446363734792008-07-30T03:43:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:14.109-08:00Essential Rock Climbing Equipment For The Sportsman On A BudgetMore and more people are quickly discovering the thrill and satisfaction of rock climbing as a sport. The exhilarating demands of this passion, coupled with the intoxicating satisfaction of conquering nature's wonders with your sheer will and physical efforts, make rock climbing a truly addictive endeavor.

But people can't simply pack their things in their bags and venture to the great outdoors to embark on rock climbing adventures. It's a little more complicated than that. For starters, proper pre-climb training is necessary, to build your strength and endurance which are both required by the exhausting challenges of the sport, and to prepare your mind to make sound decisions while scaling the sides of cliffs and crags. Also, you'd need the right rock climbing equipment to ensure an enjoyable, and more importantly, a safe experience for yourself.

Here lies the problem that most people who are interested with rock climbing do experience.

Though training can be gained for free through the aid of friends and acquaintances who have amassed the required experience in this discipline, and even community clubs that are devoted to the sport, rock climbing equipment are not as easily procurable. You'd need to spend for the gears and items you will need, and not everyone can afford the amount necessary to purchase them.

This, however, should not be a bar to your enjoyment of rock climbing. All you need is to procure the necessary rock climbing equipment which is considered as basic for the sport. What are these? Here is a list of the "must have" supplies for your initial foray into rock climbing:

* Helmet. You need to protect your head from potential bumps or falls. You could a helmet for as low as $35.
* Harness. A harness will provide the support you need while scaling cliffs and crags. You could get one for as low as $35 as well. What you choose depends completely on your preferences in rock climbing. For you is it an indoor sport or an outdoor one? Like most big cities Dallas can offer a wide selection of rock climbing gyms. Many of them are quite large offering ten to fifteen thousand feet of rock climbing space with an average wall height of twenty five to forty feet high. These are all over the city so find one convenient to your location and see what their membership fees are like.

For rock climbing Dallas gyms also offer instruction for those of you who are beginners. They’ll teach you how to climb and what to do to climb safely. You can rent all the equipment you need at the climbing gym or if you prefer bring your own. As well, many of these rock climbing Dallas facilities will cater to groups of friends who want to climb together or help you organize a rock climbing party. An advantage to going to climbing gyms is that in the long run they are safer especially if you are just beginning. They are excellent training grounds if your desire is to include in your future the ability to rock climb in the wilderness.

For outside rock climbing Dallas has many fine locations to offer. State parks have areas where, with proper permission, rock climbers can go and enjoy a day of climbing. The parks prefer you to check in so they know where you are going to be doing your climbing and confirm that it is a designated area. Many are tying to protect their environments more and so restrict areas for climbing.

There are a few other lovely outdoor locations rock climbing Dallas style, but many of these are private locations and will cost you a small few for your day’s adventures

Learning a few basic rope climbing knots is essential before you scale that rock face. The best way is to go to one of the climbing gyms and take a few lessons from one of the instructors there. This is so you can ensure that you make your first adventure a safe one.

Topic Relation :

Beginning i rock climbing
Joys of rock climbing
Rock climbing techniques
Rock climbing harness
Uses of rock climbing
Climbing Guide
Expert discusses
Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing provesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-78447295705645145312008-07-30T03:40:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:18.000-08:00Rock Climbing Proves That Nothing Is ImpossibleDevoted rock climbers will always say that rock climbing is not just a hobby. It's a representation of the drama, the strife, the challenges, the tears and even the comedy of life. Though such a description would be a little too metaphysical for most, it does have a lot of truth in it.

The goal of rock climbing is to find the right series of rock handles in order to get to the top of a cliff or crag. The rock climber is expected to scale the side of this cliff or crag, basically using only his body to achieve the task.

It's the classic man vs. nature theme at play. Left only to his own devices, the rock climber challenges himself to conquer nature's creation by ascending the walls of a headland to reach the very top of the same.

For the uninitiated, it is easy to dismiss rock climbing as mere play. After all, what would be the significance of climbing the side of a cliff to reach the peak when there are easier ways to get there, right?

But the passion is more than what anyone could ever possibly imagine it to be. For starters, climbing the sides of cliffs using your hands and legs is, by far, one of the most physically exhaustive sports in existence. Rock climbers train for months, if not years, before they start scaling rock walls. They engage in a variety of strength and stamina conditioning exercises before they embark on an actual expedition. This includes a regular jog across many miles, which should be done at least thrice a week; indoor wall climbing exercises to keep the body conditioned for the demands of the sport and to keep the mind sharp for the challenges of the same; and strength training programs especially designed for rock climbers.

The actual expedition is even more daunting. Rock climbers would say that even the best prepared of them sometimes surrender to the sheer difficulty of having to scale the most taxing cliffs or crags.

But rock climbing does offer a lot of benefits for anyone who would decide to give it a shot.

* It builds strength.
* It builds endurance.
* It builds stamina.
* It develops mental toughness to enable people to cope up with other problems in life.
* It provides what rock climbers call as the most satisfying feeling in the world once you have succeeded in scaling a cliff or crag.
* It remains a social activity as rock climbers develop a tight bond that is comparable to a brotherhood of sorts.

But the best reward that rock climbing could give you is making you believe that nothing - NOTHING - is impossible for as long as you try your best. This elevates the activity from its classification as a mere sport, to the more prudent description of a passion.

Topic Relation :

Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing proves
Portable rock climbing
Mad rock climbing shoes
Experience innovation
Rules for jushua tree rock
How indoor rock climbingAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-475068733014869022008-07-30T03:25:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:18.129-08:00A Portable Rock Climbing Wall Is Coming To a City Near You!A portable rock climbing wall provides a humanitarian service to those bored with mundane, run of the mill exercises and activities. Now, some may scoff at this idea, but a portable rock climbing wall literally brings the activity into and area or town where the sport of rock climbing may not be easily accessible.

In metropolitan and urban areas, there aren’t any national parks inside the center of a city. So, the volume of rock climbing activities would be nil. Granted, there are those who seem to enjoy climbing up the side of a building, but that isn’t rock climbing. That is skyscraper climbing. Plus there are about a dozen felonies involved with that activity and people who do it usually find themselves arrested and held for psychiatric evaluation. So it is not really all that recommended for rock climbers. And it is a bad sojourn for novices, anyway.

So, in metropolitan (or even suburban areas) much like the circus, a portable rock climbing wall can roll into town and provide an excellent day’s activity for those looking to substitute an active hobby in place of what may have been turning out to be a rather dreary day. Now, this does not mean that every portable rock climbing wall that you see is part of a touring company. Many portable climbing walls are set up in one area and they may stay there for an extended period. This has been done at some universities where the portable climbing wall has been a fixture for entire summers. (They are wise to move the thing into storage during the school year because NO ONE would get any work done if the rock climbing wall was in operation!)

A portable rock climbing wall is a fun way pf bringing an outdoors activity to a city near you. And, considering the popularity of the activity, if a wall hasn’t been erected in your city yet it soon will be.

Topic Relation :

Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing proves
Portable rock climbing
Mad rock climbing shoes
Experience innovation
Rules for jushua tree rock
How indoor rock climbingAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-19260321606912024632008-07-30T03:21:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:18.235-08:00Mad Rock Climbing Shoes Or BustMany will contend that though rock climbing is a fast growing sport (or extreme sport for purists out there), its market is still relatively small compared to the other conventional sports in the world. But even if this is true, level of passion is not dependent on the size of the playing field, and for the loyal throng of supporters that rock climbing enjoys, one brand stands tall in servicing their scaling needs: Mad Rock Climbing.

Mad Rock Climbing is considered as the Nike of the rock climbing scene. Its popularity in the industry is beyond compare, so much so that the brand has become associated with the sport. Mention rock climbing to anyone, and they'll immediately have thoughts of Mad Rock Climbing gear.

The most popular in its line of products, however, are the Mad Rock Climbing shoes. There are two types of these performance shoes that cater to the rock climbing market. These are:

1. Rock shoes. These are pairs with soles that are flexible and perfectly arched to provide a better grip on the slabs and holes that a rock climber has to use to navigate his way to the top. The Loco is the model of choice for male rock climbers because of its amazing engineering, fusing elegant design with perfect performance. The Hottie, on the other hand, is a popular choice among the females, as it looks good enough for casual wear, but is possessed of solid engineering design as well, highlighted by its amazing arch that is exclusively formatted to feel comfortable on a woman's foot.

2. Approach shoes. Approach shoes are named as such because they are perfect for the initial push during the first stages of a climb, and they are quite flexible for short distance and direct route scaling. Of the Mad Rock Climbing shoes that fall under this category, the Fanatic and the Apex Trail are the most popular. Their sturdy nature is perfectly complemented by sound engineering design that makes those long treks towards the site a comfortable and safe experience.

There is no doubt as to why Mad Rock Climbing shoes have reached their status as the premiere rock climbing soles in the market. The company's commitment to excellence shows in every product, and with every climb that the rock climber ventures to achieve.

Topic Relation :

Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing proves
Portable rock climbing
Mad rock climbing shoes
Experience innovation
Rules for jushua tree rock
How indoor rock climbingAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-73622681366989183272008-07-30T03:19:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:18.361-08:00Experience Innovation With Your Lowe Alpine Rock Climbing GearFrom its traditional beginnings, Lowe Alpine has made a name for itself as a company that services rock climbers with gears that put a premium on functionality and great performance before anything else. It's just a bonus that any Lowe Alpine rock climbing gear is also aesthetically pleasant and highly fashionable.

Founded by Greg Lowe three decades ago, the company has amassed a series of world renowned tools and equipments that climbers from all over the world have grown to cherish and love. The most popular Lowe Alpine rock climbing gear is perhaps its proprietary backpack that revolutionized the industry when it was released in 1967. It made use of an internal frame technology that maximized its strength as well as its storage space. To this very date, Lowe Alpine backpacks still utilize the same technology with timeless efficiency.

What is probably the most exciting Lowe Alpine rock climbing gear to emerge recently, however, is the DryFlo Zone. This is a body suit that will protect your skin against environmental hazards and climatic factors, much like usual clothing. The only difference is that the DryFlo Zone wouldn't make you feel like you're wearing anything. This is because of what Lowe Alpine calls as next-to-skin technology. What is its impact on rock climbing? For starters, rock climbers would have more flexibility in navigating those slabs and holes while scaling cliffs and crags. Also, DryFlo Zone is lighter, whether it's being worn or packed.

Rock climbers who find themselves in very low temperatures which can be considered as unforgiving can also avail of a Lowe Alpine rock climbing gear called Triplepoint Ceramic with AIMMS (Advanced Internal Moisture Management System) technology. This gear, which looks like a jacket, actually repels water quite well by managing moisture formation. Rock climbers won't have to be burdened by the additional weight of accumulated water or snow.

Rock climbers who find themselves in opposite weather and climatic conditions, on the other hand, can always avail of a Lowe Alpine rock climbing gear called Desertweave Tech. The Desertweave Tech is an amazing quick drying, light fabric that offers ultraviolet protection for the wearer. It's not bulky too, and it can easily be packed for some serious, long treks towards climb sites.

Lowe Alpine is one of the most trusted names in the rock climbing industry, and for good reasons. Its founder, Greg Lowe, was a climber himself. His passion gave birth to the company, and his dreams live on with every innovation that Low Alpine introduces for the benefit and better enjoyment of rock climbers the world over.

Topic Relation :

Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing proves
Portable rock climbing
Mad rock climbing shoes
Experience innovation
Rules for jushua tree rock
How indoor rock climbingAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-15454311114900794822008-07-30T03:14:00.000-07:002008-11-13T10:29:18.594-08:00Rules for Jushua Tree Rock ClimbingThe national parks have many rules about what can be done there and still allow the preservation of the wilderness. Rock climbing is allowed in many of them, including the Jushua Tree National Park, but not without strict rules. Jushua Tree rock climbing is permitted only if their unwavering guidelines are followed. They are worried about the huge increase in climbers and the effects this will have on the wilderness. More people potentially mean more damage to the rock faces, increased erosion, garbage from food and the question of human waste removal.

Jushua Tree rock climbing is strictly regulated. The bolts that are already in place can only be replaced if they are unsafe. New ones may be placed but not without your choices being monitored by the park staff. There are guidelines for what you are allowed to do when Jushua Tree rock climbing that you can download from their website before you go there or get them at their offices once you arrive. The bolts are only allowed for what they refer to as their non-wilderness areas. Some climbers use power drills when climbing. You must get a permit to use and that is only allowed in non-wilderness areas.

When enjoying the beauty of Jushua Tree rock climbing don’t forget that you are not permitted to bolt in the areas that are designated as wilderness. They are working towards eventual guidelines that will allow this practice in a limited way but as they are working hard to ensure the impact of Jushua Tree rock climbing in minimal they will not open those rules up by much when their policies change.

When you visit this national park, or any of the others, you must show respect for the nature you are intruding on. Rock climbing is becoming a more popular sport and no one wants to see the outcome of that popularity become the destruction of the few beautiful places that remain untouched by man.

Topic Relation :

Essential rock climbing
For rock climbing dallas
Rock climbing proves
Portable rock climbing
Mad rock climbing shoes
Experience innovation
Rules for jushua tree rock
How indoor rock climbingAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957591490350357644.post-40001520801194463472008-07-30T03:08:00.001-07:002008-11-13T10:29:18.788-08:00How Indoor Rock Climbing Do
Indoor rock climbing is one heck of a convenient sporting activity. In years past, had one wanted to climb to the top of Mount Everest, one had to travel half way around the world and actually climb up a big ole mountain. Today, one can climb up any structure that can fit inside a building.

Unfortunately, most buildings can not accommodate mountains or rock walls that are twenty-six thousand or so feet high in altitude. Because of this, those looking to take part in indoor rock climbing have to settle for scaled back models. But that is okay, as indoor rock climbing still provides a host of health related benefits, as well as being a downright fun hobby.

Indoor rock climbing is a great cardio vascular and endurance boosting sport. If one is looking to increase their overall endurance capacity, rock climbing is a top way to go and the indoor version is just as good as well. Rock climbing not only involves increasing one’s heart health, but it can work as a quality calorie burning exercise. Quality means that it not only burns fat, it helps build lean muscle. Other common forms of exercise don’t always do this. Walking, for example, burns fat but also burns a significant amount of muscle as your body interprets walking as a migration for food. (That is, it burns muscle because your body assumes you are starving and avoids burning stored fat) Rock climbing does not have burn muscle. It builds it.

The problem with many cardio and weight loss programs is that they can get really dull in a hurry. The repetitive nature of something like step aerobics can take the fun out of it. Plus, for many people already at a decent level of health and fitness, even the more strenuous programs they are used to become dull over time as more experienced health freaks will constantly crave a new, more challenging activity.
